Definition of Terms
On his own and apropos of nothing we could discern at the time, the Beaner asked me to define "rude" today. Yesterday, he asked me to define "non-fiction." The latter was relatively easy; the former, not so much. I need to get my explanations to fit within a 3.5 year-old's attention span, which is to say, 15 words or fewer. There's nothing so frustrating as finally hitting on the perfect explanation and realizing that you lost your audience 5 minutes ago. Wait, yes there is: It's having your explanation interrupted by another, wholly unrelated question, such as "should I be turning this clockwise to tighten, or counter-clockwise?"
